RS Pro North American NEMA 5-15 to IEC C13 Power Cord
From RS Pro a high quality and durable North American power cable assembly or power cord for connecting an appliance to a mains power supply. This power cord is fully equipped with North American NEMA 5-15 2-pin mains plug on one end and an IEC C13 type connector on the other that connects to the appliance. The power lead features integrated strain reliefs that provide additional protection and support to the connectors and help prevent damage being caused by excessive bending
What is a Power Cable Assembly?
Power cable assemblies are electrical cables that are pre-terminated with a plug or socket connector. Power cable assemblies can be terminated with connectors on both ends of the cable, or just one. Depending on the application, there are various types to suit a wide range of requirements.
What is a NEMA 5-15 Plug?
This cable assembly is terminated one end with a NEMA 5-15 plug. NEMA stands for the US National Electrical Manufacturers Association. NEMA 5-15 plugs are used for AC mains electricity in North America and other countries that used the same standard. NEMA 5-15P plugs have two poles with one ground pin, are rated for 125 V and are used on domestic electric equipment.
What is an IEC C13 Connector?
The other end of this power cord is terminated with a fully moulded IEC C13 socket which is used to connect the power cord to an appliance that has a C14 inlet. C13 and C14 connectors have 3 pins, a rated current of 10 A and a maximum temperature rating of 70°C, and are sometimes referred to as IEC cold connectors. IEC connectors conform to a set of specifications called IEC-60320 laid down by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) to make sure the connectors meet common global design standards.
Features and Benefits
Flexible and durable cable with PVC insulation
NEMA 5-15 plug for use in North American market
IEC C13 connector
Fully moulded connectors for strength and durability
Reliable integrated strain relief for connection support and protection
What is This Cable Assembly Used With?
These IEC C13 mains cable leads are for use with IEC Class I appliances and mainly used in computer equipment but can also be used in some domestic and commercial appliances. The most common applications include the following:
Personal Computers and hard drives
Test equipment
Power distribution devices
Server and network equipment
Instrumentation amplifiers
IT equipment
Approvals
SAA
IEC and International Leads
A range of electrical appliance connecting leads, the majority of which are terminated with connectors that conform to IEC 60320. The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is the international standards and conformity assessment body. The drawing illustrates the range of connector types offered within this section - The 'odd' 'C' numbers refer to a socket type connector - mains input - and the 'even' 'C' numbers refer to a plug type connector - the appliance inlet.
