Free chlorine and total chlorine test kit
Chlorine is the most commonly used disinfectant in treating drinking water, waste water, swimming pools and for sterilisation in the agri-food business sector.
Chlorine present in water binds with bacteria so that only the free chlorine portion is still available to function as a disinfectant.
If the ratio of chlorine drops too low in relation to the pH, water develops an unpleasant taste and odour.
Free chlorine reacts with ammonia ions and organic compounds to form chlorine compounds.
These compounds together with the chloramines form combined chlorine.
Combined chlorine and free chlorine together make up the total chlorine.
Free chlorine has a much greater disinfectant effect than combined chlorine, whereas combined chlorine is more stable and less volatile.
These Checker Disk test kits are based on the DPD colorimetric method offering resolution and high accuracy.
Colour comparison disc changes colour on a continuous scale from very pale to very dark.
They use a reference tube and a tube in which the colour reaction is takes place.
The result is read by visually comparing the colour with the coloured disc. Use of the disc guarantees resolution and accuracy.
